Thai Nguyen Medical University (located about 2 1/2 hours north of Hanoi and has expressed strong interest in hosting visiting residents and students. A UW faculty member, Michael Chung (Infectious Disease, Dept GH), is based near the site and has connections with the university and hospital.
Visiting residents, pharmacy students and medical students are welcome. You must pay a small amount for housing, lecture, etc, and would be linked with Vietnamese residents who are very interested in practicing English. Lectures are in English. Site visits have found the infrastructure to pretty good. Contact Dr. Chung for more details (

The hospital serves hilltribes, about around 400 beds and outpt clinics. Israeli pediatric residents have regularly visited for 3 month periods. Cases include tetanus, TB, dengue, meningitis, a little malaria, variety of derm, cancer. Feeding programs are also in service for children.
